I May Not Know Art, But I Know How to Spell It

Sock Cop 🤝 Turtles 🤝Microsoft

Five years ago, Twitter was still a fun and whimsical place. My friend reminded me of this neat thing that happened. I posted this on discord and stuff, but I didn’t tell the whole story.

I sent out a tweet that told people to reply with their favorite animal and I would draw it in Microsoft Paint. I did this gimmick a few times, it was a fun way to kill some time. One time I redrew people’s profile pics poorly in Paint, and some cats used it as their profile pic for years afterwards. There’s no greater compliment to a terrible artist than that.

Anyway, out of the blue, Microsoft replied that their favorite animal was turtles. There were plenty of smart alecks who replied, “Of course Microsoft picked the turtle on account of how slow Windows is, hurdy hurr hurr.” But I thought it was a great choice. Turtles ain’t never hurt nobody. Except for ninja turtles, but they only hurt bad guys so that’s ok.

So, I drew the Microsoft logo with a turtle so crude that any self-respecting mother would be far too embarrassed to hang on a fridge. Someone replied “MAKE IT YOUR PROFILE PICTURE YOU COWARDS” so MS said if it got some number of retweets they would change it for the day. It did. They did. It was a fun day on the internet for your old pal Sock Cop.

What does this mean in the grand scheme of things? Nothing! Just another example of a sock accidentally influencing a giant global corporation worth billions of dollars to change a picture on a website for a day. A tale as old as time.

Fun Above All

Sorry to get mild to moderate serious, but I just want to share my mission statement real quick. I’m talking mostly about my streams since that’s the main thing I do on the internet, but also just in general. It’s all about fun.

Fun is the only reason any of this exists. It’s fun for me to do and hopefully fun for you to watch and/or take part in. The world can be mean, so I think it’s important to create a little corner that’s used only as a fun, happy place.

I don’t discuss politics or controversy or drama or any of that unfun stuff, except for maybe a quick lil joke here or there. If that’s the kind of stuff you are into, there are plenty of other places for it.

I am here for the silly, the mundane, and the nonsense. I want to talk about food and animals and what neat stuff you’ve been into lately. I want us to share a laugh at something ridiculous. I hope you feel the same way.
